Tight Security In Nakuru Ahead Of Maina Njenga’s Arraignment

Security has been heightened in parts of Nakuru ahead of the planned arraignment of former Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga.

Roads leading to the court have been barricaded, causing restricted access, and anti-riot police officers are strategically stationed at various entry points.

He is expected to face several criminal charges among them being a member of an organised criminal group.

Njenga was questioned by DCI detectives last Thursday in Nairobi after being accused of addressing a meeting on May 11, 2023 in the Wanyororo area of Nakuru County to “encourage support” for the outlawed criminal group, Mungiki.

He is also accused of engaging in criminal activity. He is accused of inviting individuals to the said meeting in the Wanyororo area, where he is accused of providing Mungiki-related instructions.

He’s also accused of having “a military backpack strap, property of the National Police Service (NPS), that is suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.”

His appearance at the DCI headquarters, however, was marred by running battles after police officers lobbed teargas canisters at Njenga supporters who had gathered to show their support.

He is also being investigated in connection with the recovery of two firearms and more than 90 rolls of bhang discovered at a home associated with him in Ngomongo, Bahati.
