Martha Karua: The Vilification Of Uhuru Kenyatta Is Totally Unnecessary

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition co-principal Martha Karua is speaking out against what she calls the Kenya Kwanza government’s vilification of former President and Azimio chairman Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking to journalists in Nairobi on Monday, Karua claimed that the recent leadership squabbles in the Jubilee Party are being staged in order to demean the former president and create a crisis in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.

“The invasion of the Jubilee Party must be seen in this light: it is an attempt to cripple Mount Kenya leadership and create a crisis of governance of political parties in the region,” said the NARC Kenya party leader.

“The vilification of our Azimio chairman, President Uhuru Kenyatta, is part of this evil scheme to subdue a whole community and region. This is totally unnecessary,” added Karua.

Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, who was also in the briefing called for a stop to attacks meted against Kenyatta, which he called unwarranted.

“The unwarranted and uncalled-for attacks on Uhuru Kenyatta, the Azimio chairman, must stop,” said Kioni.

Due to the squabbles in Jubilee, Kenyatta convened a National Delegates Conference (NDC) last month, which the party’s Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC) has since declared null and void.

Kenyatta presided over the National Delegates Conference (NDC) of the Kioni-led Jubilee faction on May 22, amid a campaign to expel renegade party members.

The Jubilee party had been embroiled in leadership wranglings after the Kanini Kega-led faction made leadership changes that saw Kenyatta ousted as party leader, Senator Sabina Chege nominated as acting party leader, and Kega replace Kioni as Sec-Gen.
