MP Wamuchomba Criticizes The 2023 Devolution Conference

According to the MP, the conference held to assess devolution's progress over the last decade failed to include the key beneficiaries of the devolved system of government, the common mwananchi.

Gathoni Wa-Muchomba, a Member of Parliament from Githunguri, has criticized the 2023 concluded devolution conference.

According to the MP, the conference held to assess devolution’s progress over the last decade failed to include the key beneficiaries of the devolved system of government, the common mwananchi.

She believes that people on the ground are best placed to provide honest feedback on how devolution has worked for them.

“It was a well-organized conference however, having achieved much in 10 years, the person who should be involved more are the people who are beneficiaries of the services, not me as the MP, Governor, or the CECs,” she said.

“I feel that this is not very good in terms of the amount of money spent and time…It is the people who are supposed to be giving us marks and telling us whether devolution has worked for them or not.”

The lawmaker also wants the ongoing bipartisan talks between the Opposition and the Kenya Kwanza government to be expanded to include the views of all stakeholders.
