Over 15,000 Passports Due For Collection This Week, Kindiki Announces

Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has announced that 15,400 passports are ready for collection at different immigration centres this week.

The CS stated that 22,353 passports were collected in Nairobi and regional immigration offices across the country last week after he launched the Rapid Results Initiative ((RRI) for the issuance of passports to Kenyans.

Kindiki explained that the overdue passports should be collected from Nairobi and other regional offices.

In Nairobi, 7,501 passports are ready, 1,166 in Mombasa, 1,602 in Kisumu, and 1000 in Nakuru. Other regional offices where passports can be collected include Eldoret (1,543), Kisii (1,500), and Embu (1,088).

“The Government will continue to align our procedures and delivery environment to ensure we bring permanent efficiency in the immigration department and sustain the war against corruption to win back public confidence,” Kindiki said.

Following public outcry over delayed passports and massive corruption, the CS made several visits to Nyayo House, where the Department of Immigration is based.

Kindiki vowed to crush the department’s corrupt officials and promised to speed up the passport printing process.

Many Kenyans complained about missing out on job and travel opportunities as a result of the delays.
