BATA shoe Kenya Company manager and a cashier have been arraigned in court for allegedly stealing millions of money from the company.
Moses Ngugi Muchwe and Francis Mwangi Wairimu the two employees from BATA shoe PLC were arraigned before Milimani Law Courts Semior Principal Magistrate Easther Kimilu where they all denied the charges.
According to the prosecution, the two accused persons on diverse dates between July 12, and December 11, 2021, at Nairobi BATA Shoe Kenya PLC depot, stole 16, 711 pairs of shoes all valued at Kes 15,509,987.
The said shoes are believed to have come into their possession by virtue of their employment.
The two suspects are alleged to have colluded to selling shoes and not remitting money to the company accounts.
According to the complainant, they could however claim that the sales are low and the shoes were still in store. The two through self-declaration indicated there was a loss of Ksh 1 million only for an external auditor to confirm that shoes valued more than Ksh 15 million were missing from the stock.
After pleading not guilty to the stealing charges, the court released them on a bond of Ksh 5 million.
The case will be mentioned on October 24 for pretrial.
