Man Charged For Allegedly Assaulting A Police Officer

A man who allegedly assaulted a police officer stationed at the Drive Inn Police Post in Roysambu, Nairobi has been arraigned in Court with assault and offensive conduct contrary to the Law.

The suspect, Erick Ochieng is said to have assaulted the police officer on October 8, 2023, after making his way to the police post to inquire about a report he had previously filed.

Ochieng sought swift resolution of the case but the officer manning the desk, Corporal Peter Karanja, informed him that investigations into the report were yet to be finalized.

These remarks irked Ochieng, who reportedly caused a scene at the police post.

The officer attempted to de-escalate the situation by leaving Ochieng, but the accused reportedly barred him from leaving the desk before injuring him with a door.

Following the incident, Ochieng was reportedly placed into custody by Karanja’s colleagues after members of the public who were at the scene raised the alarm.

Appearing before Makadara Law Court Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi on Thursday, Ochieng denied the charges and was released on a Ksh.40,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on November 28.
