The Kenya Forest Service has issued an update on the death of two forest rangers in the Aberdares Forest.
According to a social media post, KFS said the
two KFS rangers died after their vehicle rolled down the steep hills.
“Kenya Forest Service wishes to clarify and convey condolences to the families of the two officers who indeed died following a road traffic accident within Aberdare forest while en route to a fire site.”
The incident occurred on the morning of 8th February 2023 when a team of KWS rangers was being ferried to a fire site in Wandare area in Aberdare Ecosystem.
“The vehicle rolled downhill, instantly killing one KWS ranger and one electric fence attendant. Six other KWS rangers were injured and taken to various hospitals in Nyeri County.”
The wildfires are believed to have begun due to the scorching sun and the long drought.
Over 40,000 acres of Aberdares forest were destroyed by wildfires.
