The Giallorossi were looking to see out a 1-0 win against an increasingly adventurous Feyenoord side and the England striker bought his defenders some much-needed respite with some intelligent forward play when he was brought down.
With the cameras focused in on Roma’s top scorer this season, Abraham looked to the bench while clutching his shin before winking.
Feyenoord enjoyed 67 per cent of the ball on the night while Roma defender Chris Smalling was awarded man of the match, perhaps indicators of the dominance of the Dutch side and the importance of Abraham’s gamesmanship.
Meanwhile, another wrote: ‘Tammy Abraham has turned into the ideal Mourinho striker! That wink was awesome’.
While another fan compared Abraham to Didier Drogba, a striker who played for the Portuguese Mourinho in two separate spells at Chelsea.
‘Abraham is Mourinho’s Drogba. That’s What he has always wanted as a player,’ they noted.
Other fans suggested that Abraham had learnt the trick from David Luiz, another former Chelsea star.
Luiz, famously, went down under a challenge at Old Trafford by the corner flag and while writing around winked to the on-looking cameras.
‘Tammy doing what David Luiz taught him at Chelsea,’ one fan suggested.
However, not all supporters were that impressed by the actions of Abraham.
While BT Sport appeared to enjoy the actions of the English forward, supporters noted their very different reaction to Moussa Dembele’s wink against West Ham in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
‘Remember when you cried over Dembele doing against West Ham now you’re raising it just because it’s Tammy, embarrassing channel,’ one individual noted.
While another took umbrage with the style of play that Roma employed during Wednesday’s Europa Conference League final.
