ACA Returns Seized Goods Worth Ksh 50M To China Square

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) has released goods worth KES 50 million seized at China Square after confirming their authenticity.

ACA CEO Robi Mbugua Njoroge stated in a press release issued on March 2, 2023 that the goods were seized on February 16, 2023, in response to a complaint from Smithmo Company Ltd, which suspected China Square of selling counterfeit Finder Tools.

“We would like to inform the public that the complainant in a letter dated February 27, wrote to ACA and requested to withdraw the complaint against China Square.

“In light of this new information, ACA conducted a thorough investigation and verified the source of the goods and we can confirm that they are authentic Finder Tools. As such, we have released the goods to the rightful owner,” ACA said.

The ACA urged the public to be cautious when purchasing goods and to report any suspected counterfeit cases.

China Square has been at the centre of a controversy for allegedly underpricing goods and driving local merchants out of business as a result.

On Sunday, the retail shop closed indefinitely to address several issues, including security.

The Chinese Embassy broke its silence on the issue on Wednesday, urging the Kenyan government to protect its citizens and foster a business-friendly environment.
