Activists Order Probe Into Aquinas Sodomy Case

Human rights activists and parents have urged authorities to investigate the alleged sodomy incidents at Nairobi’s St. Aquinas High School as soon as possible, citing reports of a cover-up.

The appeal comes after it was revealed that a Form I pupil at the school had been sexually abused before attempting suicide.

In a joint statement released on Monday, civil society groups urged that the Principal of St Aquinas School resign pending an investigation into the alleged crime.

A concerned mom called a teacher at St. Aquinas High School on February 3 to inquire about her son’s well-being and provide pocket money through the teacher’s phone, according to Mary Kambo of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

She went on to say that the parent was notified that her son had been sent home from school owing to a school fee balance, which perplexed the parent because she had paid all of her son’s school fees.

The victim’s parent was disturbed, according to Kambo, when the victim begged her to transfer her from the school, prompting her to investigate as to why.

When Kambo contacted the School Principal about the situation, the administrator claimed that such things had occurred at the school but refused to explain why he had sent the boy home.

The rights activists also claimed that the school had made no efforts to investigate the incident and that no action had been taken against the perpetrator who had sodomized the victim.
