Guinea’s interim president, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, has reportedly demanded a refund, after the team was knocked out of the ongoing AFCON competition.
Col Mamady made the demands after forgiving the National Elephants for their Round of 16 exit from the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya had instructed the National Elephants of Guinea before the commencement of the competition, that they had to win the tournament or the country’s money would be returned.
However, a 1-0 defeat to Gambia ended their chances of winning the AFCON for the first time in their history, as they were knocked out of the competition.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, according to Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams, has forgiven the team for their failure to win the championship, stating that the pre-AFCON speech was only intended to push the team to perform better.
He does, however, request a reimbursement of some of the money because the budget was to get them to the competition’s semi-finals.
