The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) Axle Load Assistant Director Engineer Michael Ngala has said that the EAC, COMESA and the entire Africa continent is moving towards one unified law regarding vehicle loading.
Addressing the press at Juja Weighbridge, Eng. Ngala said that as soon as the law rolls out, they will be having a unified legal regime and each country will be moving towards ensuring that they have effective Axle Control System.
According to Eng. Ngala, this will aid in increasing trade within the continental Africa through effective road network and one unified Act to control what is transported through the African roads.
“We are actually implementing the virtual weighbridges on our networks. Currently we have 23 of them and we are still planning to add more. These weighbridges have helped in instilling compliance and we actually charge vehicles that are found flouting the legal limits when they are intercepted,” he said.
Eng. Ngala said that where there are no static weighbridge stations, the virtual weighbridges usually complement and they add to it mobile weighbridge stations which they use to ensure there is compliance.
