African Countries Vows To Green Their Judiciaries

African Judiciary has vowed to take the fight against environmental destruction at a higher level.

Over 300 delegates from across the African continent, including 27 Chief Justices, converged in Nairobi for the third regional conference on greening African judiciaries.

President William Ruto officially opened the symposium at the Safari Park Hotel.

Nairobi Deputy Governor James Muchiri encouraged the judiciary to create and tighten environmental laws, as well as to conduct study on judicial processes in environmental issues.

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu stated that they are here to learn how to green their judicial thinking so that their law can address climate change and all of its environmental effects.

“I am happy it’s happening during my time and in Nairobi, Kenya… Let’s take time to learn because, after the third symposium, all of us in the judiciary In Africa will be expected to think how to stop the adverse effects of misbehaving on the environment,” Mwilu said.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has assured the Judiciary that he will support any legislation on climate change that will be taken to parliament.
