Afya House Skips Meeting Amid Sh104 B Tender Scrutiny Grows

On Friday, Afya House Officials abruptly left a key meeting meant to explain how the new Social Health Authority pilot would be implemented on Tuesday.

The unexpected exit left questions about the readiness of the program, which aims to replace the NHIF and reform health care access.

Heath PS Harry Kimtai was scheduled to host the meeting at JW Marriot in Nairobi’s Chiromo area at 7:30 a.m. The session was highly anticipated, as Kimtai was expected to provide further details on the controversial sh104 billion IT system that will support the delivery of health services under the new Social Health Authority.

The system has drawn public scrutiny over its cost and implementation, adding to the concerns surrounding the health sector reforms

The SHA’s invitation indicated that PS Harry Kimtai would be joined by a SHA representative and officials from the consortium selected to provide the sh 104 billion healthcare IT system.

The meeting was expected to address growing concerns over the transparency of the system’s selection and its role in improving healthcare delivery.

“The Ministry of Health invites you to attend an update session ahead of the new health system roll out that will commence on October 1, 2024. During the meeting, a team of experts will take the members of the fourth estate through what Kenyans should expect from beginning of October and how the new system will work, “The invite stated.
