Agriculture CS Nominee Karanja Denies Allegations of Ties to Former Agriculture Minister

Dr. Andrew Muhia Karanja, nominated for the role of Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, has vehemently denied allegations that he served as a personal assistant to former Agriculture Minister Mithika Linturi.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Vetting Committee on Friday, August 2, Karanja expressed surprise and frustration at the claims, calling them “entirely unfounded.”

The controversy emerged from accusations linking Karanja to Linturi’s tenure, which was plagued by allegations of fraudulent fertilizer distribution.

Karanja, however, firmly rejected these claims, stating, “I have never met the former Honourable Minister for Agriculture, nor have I ever been his personal assistant.”

Karanja’s nomination has generated significant interest due to his extensive career in public service, including roles such as Lead Economist at the State Department of Livestock and Senior Agricultural Economist at the World Bank.

His expertise in development economics and agricultural finance is well-regarded.

The scrutiny around Karanja’s nomination has been intensified by the concurrent nomination of Eric Muriithi Muuga for the position of Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation.

Muuga, who hails from the same region as Linturi, has received positive community reactions for his diligent work as a Civil Engineer.

As both nominees undergo their vetting processes, the political landscape remains charged with anticipation and scrutiny.
