Politicians have voiced their anger at telecos for switching off their SIM Cards.
Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi was among the top politicians who complained after their SIM cards were de-registered.
“After 2 and half decades of being a loyal customer of @Safaricom_Care they unceremoniously switched off my line this Sunday…tomorrow I will move to one of the competitors and will NEVER use their service again. I knew that short man will burn to ashes the House built by Michael!”
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei also called for the Communication Authority to regulate Safaricom’s monopoly.
“After 15 years of having Safaricom @SafaricomPLC lines they have decided to switch off their services today morning inconveniencing me. We need a vibrant competitor to finish Safaricom’s monopoly of communications any options? Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) over to you !”
However shortly later their lines were restored.
Telkom had the lowest compliance percentage, at 40% or 1.8 million SIM cards, while Airtel had 13.4 million properly registered SIM cards, representing a rate of 78% compliance.
The CA reported in June of this year that more than 124,000 SIM cards had been canceled in an effort to stop illegally registered lines in Kenya.
