Airbase MCA Aspirant Condemns Alleged Attack on Babu Owino, Urges Accountability

“Acts of violence, intimidation and reckless behavior are unacceptable and have no place in leadership or public life,” Nurow stated.

Aspiring Airbase Ward MCA Abdiwahab Mohamed Nurow has condemned an alleged altercation involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai, calling for restraint among leaders and a thorough investigation into the incident.

In a statement shared on social media, Nurow described the reported conduct as unacceptable and warned against the use of intimidation or violence in public life.

“Acts of violence, intimidation and reckless behavior are unacceptable and have no place in leadership or public life,” Nurow stated.

He added that the allegations, if proven, would amount to a serious abuse of responsibility and a direct affront to the rule of law.

“Leaders must exercise restraint, maturity and respect, even in moments of disagreement,” he stated.

Nurow further urged law enforcement agencies to handle the matter impartially and ensure accountability, noting that public office should never be used to threaten lives or undermine peace.

“Hon. Babu Owino deserves safety and dignity like any other citizen. Power must never be used to threaten lives or undermine peace,” he stated.

The comments follow claims by Owino that he was assaulted during an encounter at a restaurant along Lenana Road in Nairobi’s Kilimani area on Saturday afternoon.

According to Owino, the incident occurred at around 3:40 p.m. after he had gone to meet a senior clergyman at the establishment.

He said he had released his security detail for the holidays and was alone at the time.

Owino stated that as he was leaving the restaurant, he approached a nearby table to greet acquaintances, including Alai.

He alleges the interaction turned hostile after Alai accused him of orchestrating social media attacks against Alai’s wife; claims Owino denies.

“Without provocation, he accused me of being behind alleged social media attacks on his wife. I calmly explained that I do not know his wife and have no reason to involve innocent family members in politics,” Owino said.

The MP further alleged that the confrontation escalated into physical violence, claiming Alai pushed him, drew a firearm and struck him on the chest and jaw, before later pouring water on his face as onlookers gathered.

Owino said he left the restaurant to prevent further escalation and reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident and no charges have been announced as investigations continue.
