A graft case involving Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been postponed until August 15 to allow the legislator to concentrate on her Kilifi gubernatorial campaign.

Jumwa had sought time to focus on the campaigns, which she describes as hectic and chaotic.

Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku ordered the case to be continued from August 15 to August 19.

“She is worried that her opponents would use the case against her politically. She seeks the court’s permission to give her time off to campaign for the governor’s seat. One of her lawyers (Cliff Ombeta) has also been held up by politics,” her counsel Danstan Omari told the court.

Following the transfer of the previous magistrate, Edna Nyaloti, to another station, Jumwa has been given permission to recall all witnesses for a new examination.

Jumwa is accused of defrauding the Malindi Constituency Development Fund of Ksh.19 million (CDF).

Wachu Omar Abdalla (Malindi CDF Account Manager), Kennedy Otieno Onyango, Bernard Riba Kai, Sophia Saidi Charo, and Margaret Faith Kalume, members of the Malindi Tender Evaluation Committee, and Robert Katana Wanje, a Director of Multserve Contractors Limited, are among the six co-accused.

Jumwa is also charged with the murder of Gumbao Jola in Ganda, Malindi Constituency, in 2019.
