Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has said that her win for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat in next year General Election is going to be a milestone for the empowerment of Kilifi women. – By Ramadhan Kambi.
The fiery politician who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto said time has come for the county to be led by a woman after the exit of Governor Kingi.
Speaking at Vipingo during the celebrations to mark this year’s International Women day, Ms Jumwa said that she was sure of succeeding incumbent Governor Amason Kingi and even went further to seek his vote next year.
“Today as we mark this international women day, I would like to state here that I am going to succeed Governor Amason Kingi next year. I am even asking you (Governor) to give me your vote and I will talk to you about it,” said the Ms Jumwa.
“Today as we celebrate International women day, I want us as women in Kilifi to make sure that the next governor in this county is a woman and that is me. Why do you think women should be deputy governors only.
I am going for the seat now and women should support one of their own,” she said.
Again she asked Governor Kingi to be wary of some of the people close to him she said are misleading him.
“Governor, there are people whom you think are close to you but in reality, they are now with you.

It’s sad but that is the truth. How can someone say that they support the formation of coast coalition and the next day, the same people are in a plane heading to support Joho under ODM? These are liars,” said Ms Jumwa.
The Malindi lawmaker said that the Mombasa governor who has declared to go for the presidency on an ODM ticket does not command any vote at the Coast and for him to think that he will be supported by Coast is a day dream.
“I want to put it clearly that Joho has no votes at the Coast but we have the votes. So the coast coalition should go on. Continue to push for it,” said Ms Jumwa.
Rabai MP William Kamoti and Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire also waded into the issue of Coast political party coalition with Mr Kamoti saying that he was behind Governor Kingi in his quest.
“We are behind you because a time has come when as a region has to stand together and forge the unity of purpose,” said Mr Kamoti.
However, Mr Mwambire said the push for Coast unity should be an all-inclusive and not a one man affair.
“We should not despise others when we want to move ahead as a united region. In this quest, we all need each other and not just a mere talk and blackmail by others. It will not work that way,” said the visible agitated Mwambire .
Currently the region has been making headlines because of the push for the Coast coalition, a move that has angered ODM leader Raila Odinga.
