Turkana County police officers have recovered an AK-47 rifle following a botched abduction incident in Lorugum.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Lorugum Police Station, acting on a public tip-off, responded to reports of an armed suspect from Kaapus location who stormed a home and attempted to forcibly take a 16-year-old girl.

The swift operation, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 firearm loaded with six rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge. The suspect, however, evaded arrest and remains at large.

Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspect so he can face charges in court.

The recovered weapon has been secured as evidence.
