Alai, Sifuna Beef Ends With Blows In Raila Rally

The two leaders had a physical altercation before being separated while Martha Karua was speaking in Dagoretti North constituency's Gatina area, prompting their supporters to flee for safety even as Azimio's running mate called for calm.

During an Azimio la Umoja rally in Nairobi, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and ODM Kileleshwa Ward MCA candidate Robert Alai clashed.

Sifuna, who is running for a Senate seat in Nairobi, and Alai, who is eyeing the Kileleshwa ward seat, accompanied Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua on a tour of eight Nairobi constituencies yesterday.

The two leaders had a physical altercation before being separated while Martha Karua was speaking in Dagoretti North constituency’s Gatina area, prompting their supporters to flee for safety even as Azimio’s running mate called for calm.

“I am calling for order in this meeting, let everyone listen to the agenda our presidential candidate Raila Odinga is planning to do for Kenyans if elected as the next President in three weeks,’’ said Karua.

In a video, Alai is seen climbing a vehicle in which Sifuna was standing with other Azimio leaders before confronting him physically, forcing the ODM secretary general to defend himself.

Alai is said to have been upset about not being given a chance to speak at various stops, after which he was pushed away, with some supporters chanting ‘Alai must go’ as he returned to his vehicle.

Raila and other leaders ignored the brawl and continued with the meeting before moving on to other parts of Nairobi for the first day of a two-day campaign tour of the entire county.
