Alcaraz Beats Sinner to Reclaim US Open Title and World No 1 Ranking

Carlos Alcaraz is a US Open champion once again

Carlos Alcaraz reclaimed the US Open title with a commanding four-set win over Jannik Sinner in New York, adding another dramatic chapter to their increasingly defining rivalry.

The Spaniard, 22, started brightly, absorbed a second-set fightback from the Italian before reasserting control to close out a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory.

The win handed Alcaraz his sixth Grand Slam crown, making him the second youngest man behind Björn Borg to reach that milestone.

Security concerns delayed the final by half an hour due to the attendance of US president Donald Trump, but the match itself delivered flashes of the high-quality shot-making that has characterised their duels this season.

While not as gripping as their French Open and Wimbledon encounters earlier this year, Alcaraz’s serving – a weakness against Sinner at the All England Club – proved decisive on this occasion. He sealed the contest after Sinner had saved two championship points, showing the resilience that has become a hallmark of his career.

The result levels their head-to-head in the majors this season, with Sinner winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and Alcaraz triumphing in Paris and now New York. It was also their sixth final of 2025, underscoring a rivalry already being hailed as the successor to the Federer-Nadal-Djokovic era.

Alcaraz’s victory also sees him reclaim the world number one ranking, ending Sinner’s 65-week reign. “I see you more than my family,” Alcaraz joked afterwards. “It’s always special to share the court with you.”
