Alex Kiome Bags I&M Corporate Golf Tournament

The lush fairways, true greens, and good weather at the I&M Bank Corporate Golf Day at Karen Country Club on Friday, 2 December, all contributed to the high-scoring bonanza.

In a field of 220 golfers, the competition was stiff, as corporate golf makes a much-needed comeback following the pandemic.

Overall winner, Alex Kiome (handicap 17), took full advantage of local knowledge to sign for 46 Stableford points, 7-over gross to win by three shots over Muthaiga’s Francis Chege (handicap 21) on 43 points.

Collins Were, Karen’s vice-captain, finished second on 42 points, while Kiran Patel and Hiran Joshi finished third and fourth on countback 40 points, respectively.

Salma Mazrui-Watt, a Karen member, was the lady winner with 39 points and a handicap of 19.

Lady runner-up Renuka Shah (42 handicaps) finished two shots back, with Akinyi Gitonga (13 handicaps) taking both the Lady Third and Longest Drive Lady prizes.

Kihara Maina, CEO of I&M Bank, received the Staff prize with 43 points, matching the second-best score of the day.

I&M’s Karen Branch Manager, Joe Wainaina, handicap 7, had a good day, winning Nearest the Pin on Hole No. 5 and bagging two 2-clubs in the bank’s traditional complimentary Titleist ball pool.

Pravin Varsani won the Men’s Longest Drive on Hole 13. Wangari Kamau was the lady who came closest to the pin.
