The family of a matatu driver who was allegedly tortured to death by Nakuru police officers has asked the government to assist them in obtaining justice.
Mr Alfred King’oina, who operated between Njoro and Nakuru city, was pronounced dead on September 26, 2022, at a private hospital where his colleagues had rushed him following the assault.
According to witnesses three people alighted from a pickup truck at the Koleni matatu terminus and ordered Mr King’oina to stand next to their vehicle.
Mr Griffin Apoko, a friend of his, said the men, who were dressed in civilian clothes, presented themselves as police officers despite the fact that their vehicle had a civilian registration number.
“Mr King’oina did as he was told and approached the men. One of them was armed with a pistol, while the other was armed with handcuffs and a two-way radio. “One of the men began slapping him,” Mr Apoko explained.
