Dr. Alfred Mutua Stopped From Leaving Azimio

The Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua and his Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party have been barred from leaving the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.

On Tuesday, the Tribunal ruled that MCC’s complaint was filed prematurely because the party did not first seek internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

According to the tribunal, no evidence was presented to establish that Mutua and his MCC party actually asked the Registrar of Political Parties for the coalition agreement they signed with Azimio.

“It is difficult to find that MCC would have proceeded to execute a Coalition agreement of such magnitude without reading and understanding the same. That argument cannot be used as ground of exit. No request or effort was made towards getting a copy,” the Tribunal said.

The MCC party on Monday moved to the Tribunal stating that they were not aware of the contents of the coalition agreement with Azimio la Umoja.

Mutua also accused the Azimio leadership of excluding him and his party from decision-making processes and even denying him access to the coalition agreement filed with the Registrar of Political Parties.

They requested a stay of the gazette notice dated April 14, 2022, which listed the party as a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party.

Mutua has already joined Deputy President William Ruto’sKenya Kwanza Alliance and, as a result, his campaign trail.
