Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is running for the Mwala parliamentary seat.
Dr. Mutua, who is serving his second term as governor, recently abandoned Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition in favor of Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
However, governor Mutua later clarified that he will not run in the August elections, although he did not specify who submitted his name to the IEBC.
Dr Mutua’s (full name Alfred Nganga Mutua) inclusion in the Mwala parliamentary contest means the governor will face incumbent Vincent Musyoka alias Kawaya, who is Dr Ruto’s candidate.
Mr Musyoka has been a staunch admirer of the DP, leading several campaigns for him in Machakos County with Johnson Muthama, a UDA governor aspirant.
Ms Roda Nduku, who is running on a Kanu ticket, and Barckleih Kilei, who is running on a Wiper party ticket, are among the other candidates for the seat.
Also running are Mr. Kimilu Justus Safari of the People’s Trust Party, Kilungu Julius Mutua of Chama Cha Uzalendo, and Kioko Grace Muthakye of the ODM.
