Amboseli airstrip closed due to floods

The Amboseli national park airstrip has been closed down due to the ongoing heavy rains.

In a statement by the Kenya Wildlife Service Director General Ngugi Gecaga the decision has been arrived at after considering the safety of tourists.

The park is heavily flooded including the visitor service center.

“The closure of the park was carefully considered keeping in mind the safety of our visitors who visit the park. The apron is flooded as well as the customer service center, which have made it impossible to serve our customers.” Gecaga said

However Gecaga has said that the rest of the park remains open but visitors are advised to exercise caution and guidance on the condition of the park’s roads and gates.

The park will be opened when the conditions are favourable.
