American Airlines has announced the suspension of all its flights to and from Israel until April 2025, according to reports from Israeli media on Sunday.
This decision comes as regional tensions escalate due to Israel’s ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip, resulting in significant casualties—over 40,100 lives lost and 92,600 injuries since October 7.
Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported that American Airlines has extended its suspension of flights to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, with no specific reasons provided for the long-term flight cancellations.
The airline’s decision follows a pattern observed among several major international carriers, including United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, which have also temporarily suspended their flights to Israel in light of the current situation.
As of August 7, the number of foreign airlines that have halted operations to and from Israel has reached 20, as noted by KAN. This widespread suspension reflects the growing concerns about safety and security in the region.
Israel remains on high military alert due to potential retaliation from Iran, following the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31. While Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of being behind the assassination, the Israeli government has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
The situation has further intensified with Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group, also threatening reprisals against Israel after the airstrike that killed its senior commander, Fouad Shukr, in Beirut on July 30.
