BY PRUDENCE WANZA – An American citizen has accused a police officer of sexually assaulting him.He said that in court where he was arraigned over assaulting a police officer.
Jason Thoma Dorsey, told the court that he came to the country for medical purposes and as he was taking photographs, a police officer dressed in civilian attire grabbed him and he had to protect himself as he didn’t know he was a police officer.
He was informed that he was taking photographs of a protected area which is a crime by law.
Jason is accused of willfully and unlawfully assaulting one corporal George Morara Sabuni an officer of national police service while in the execution of his lawful duty causing him actual bodily harm.
He is alleged to have committed the offence on 25th August, 2019 at Parliament buildings along harambee avenue in Nairobi.
He was arrested on Sunday and during his time in custody at Parliament Police Station not only was he sexually assaulted but also physically and extorted by police officers.
He told Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi that if the officers could be paraded he can identify the officer who sexually assaulted him because he has not seen him since Sunday.
This is not the first time for a police officer to be accused of sexually assaulting a suspect held in custody.
A traffic policeman was charged in 2016 with assaulting and causing serious injuries to a matatu driver that led to removal of his testicles.
This was after the Independent Policing Oversight Authority’s recommendations that he be charged with causing grievous harm to the driver were approved by the then director of Public Prosecution,Keriako Tobiko. However, he was later acquitted of the charges.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi ordered that the accused person be taken to Central police station for the DCIO to conduct investigations and make a report to the court.
The case will be mentioned on 29th August,2019 for report from the DCIO to presented in court.
