Amina Lauds Kenyan Rally Youngsters Top Class Finish

Amb. Amina Mohamed, the Sports Cabinet Secretary, praised the FIA Rally Star youngsters for their encouraging performances at the African Rally Championship (ARC) Equator Rally, which ended on Sunday in Naivasha.

The CS backed the rally quartet of Jeremy Wahome, McRae Kimathi, Hamza Anwar, and Maxine Wahome, who all finished in the top ten after a two-day grueling event.

Rio Smith, a 19-year-old Fly540 Racing Team prodigy, was also praised by Amina for finishing among the top ten in the continental showpiece.

Jeremy was the best young driver, finishing fourth behind compatriot Jasmeet Chana, who shared the podium with champion Karan Patel and second-placed Zambian Leroy Gomes.

Hamza surprised everyone by setting the fastest stage time ahead of Gomes and Patel in the early morning speed test at Loldia.

“I’d like to congratulate the young drivers. They have our complete support and we are extremely proud of them. We owe them a debt of gratitude. They have shown us what true talent is all about as a result of this event.”

“They’ve also demonstrated what it means to be resilient.” Under the Super Rally rule, some of them retired yesterday (Saturday) and restarted the rally today (Sunday) on a high note. “I believe we selected a winning team, and that is the squad with which we will move forward,” said CS Amina during the closing ceremony.

MacRae Kimathi’s WRC 3 podium in WRC Rally Sweden, where he also finished fourth in the Junior WRC, was also praised by CS Amina.

Kimathi Junior made history by becoming the first Kenyan to complete a rally on snow.

“This is the first time a Kenyan has ever completed an all-snow event in Europe.” It’s the first time it’s happened. I believe we have correctly placed our bets, and we wish them luck.

Amina hinted that the WRC Safari Rally, which will be held in the lakeside town of Naivasha in June, will have more local entries this season.

“Based on what we learned last year, the WRC Safari Rally will be much bigger and better this year.”
