Amorim Apologises to Manchester United Fans, Promises After Worst-Ever Premier League Finish

As the final whistle blew on a bitter season for Manchester United, manager Ruben Amorim stood before a packed Old Trafford crowd, took the microphone—and took full responsibility.

In a heartfelt address following United’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, the Portuguese tactician offered a public apology to fans, calling the campaign “disastrous” and pleading for unity after what he described as the club’s darkest modern chapter.

United finished 15th in the Premier League, their lowest since the 1973-74 relegation.

The turbulent season saw the club lose the Europa League final to Tottenham and suffer humiliating defeats at home and abroad, while off-pitch issues like ownership protests and mass job cuts added fuel to the fire.

“I want to apologise for this season,” Amorim said solemnly. “I know you’re disappointed in me and in the team… but now we have to make a choice: stay stuck in the past or stick together and move forward.”

The former Sporting Lisbon boss took over mid-season from Erik ten Hag, warning fans in his first press conference that “the storm is coming.” Now, he insists, it’s time to rebuild.

“Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you—the good days are coming,” he vowed. “If there’s one club that can overcome any disaster, it’s Manchester United.”

Amorim also addressed his squad, admitting, “Sometimes I wasn’t fair, but I was always honest.”

The speech struck a chord with fans—many of whom have endured not just poor results but emotional detachment from a club long associated with glory.

As Manchester United prepare for a vital summer of transition, one thing is clear: Amorim wants a new era, not just a new season.

“See you next season,” he finished. A promise, or a warning? Time will tell.
