A group of irate Kiambaa locals chased National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya at the start of voting in the Kiambaa by-election on Thursday at the Kimuga polling station.
Kimunya, the residents alleged, was neither a voter nor an agent in the by-election.
“Hakutakuwa na Amani Mpaka atoke hapa (There will not be peace until he leaves.),” says one youth.
Kimunya, who was standing close to police officers, was seen deliberating on the next course of action.
However, the audience insisted that he should go and continued to shout that they would not vote until the Kipipiri MP left.
In response to the attack, the majority said the heckle was planned by UDA officials.
“It’s not members of the public asking me to leave, these are goons hired by our competition. They came here trying to influence voters until they realized that I am watching.” Amos Kimunya said.
The Kiambaa by-elections kickstarted early in the morning with instances of voter bribery and a vehicle allegedly distributing leaflets in the night.
