Amani National Congress has shrugged off the defection of three of Musalia Mudavadi MPs and MCAs during Friday’s Azimio La Umoja ceremony.
Ayub Savula, the ANC’s party deputy, was among the politicians who pledged to back Odinga’s presidential bid.
ANC however said the defection was part of the political groupings as candidates are seeking relevance.
“This should be seen and analysed within the national context. Most national parties are in a state of flux and witnessing a season of defections by politicians seeking a vantage point to secure political seats in the forthcoming elections,” Professor Amukowa Anangwe, Kakamega ANC Branch Secretary said.

In the same event, ANC leader Mudavadi was dethroned as the Luhya Spokesman which Prof Anangwe termed as “wishful thinking.”
“The resolutions are not only wishful-thinking, undemocratic, illusion and misguided and outrageous but also sought to usurp the legitimate and democratic right of the electorate to freely choose whoever they prefer for the various seats in 2022,” he added.
Several community leaders, including OKA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula, boycotted the unveiling of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya as the Luhya spokesman on Friday.
Mudavadi, who has held the position since 2013, was effectively dethroned by the latest statement by community elders.
Oparanya promised to work with Mudavadi, Wetang’ula, and other regional leaders to ensure the region’s interests are protected in the next administration.
