Ange Postecoglou Departs Tottenham After Disastrous Season

Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou, exactly two years after the Australian took charge of the club.

The decision follows a dismal 2024/25 Premier League campaign that saw Spurs slump to a 17th-place finish, narrowly avoiding relegation after losing 22 of their 38 matches.

Postecoglou was appointed on June 6, 2023, on a four-year deal, becoming the first Australian to manage a Premier League side.

His tenure began brightly, with a blistering start in the 2023/24 season earning him the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August.

A thrilling draw against Arsenal and a historic win over Liverpool further elevated his early reputation. He even set a Premier League record by collecting 23 points from his first nine games in charge.

Spurs finished fifth in Postecoglou’s debut season, securing Europa League qualification. In a rare high point of his second season, he guided the club to Europa League glory — delivering on his personal trademark of winning a trophy in his second year with any club.

However, the triumph in Europe failed to offset what became Tottenham’s worst-ever Premier League campaign. Fans and club executives grew increasingly frustrated with inconsistent performances, lack of defensive structure, and poor domestic results.

Club chairman Daniel Levy thanked Postecoglou for his service but stated that a “new direction” was necessary. The search for a successor is now underway, as the North London side looks to rebuild after a historic fall from grace.
