Former Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi has assured the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel that she is well-prepared to handle the immense pressure of chairing the electoral body.

Speaking during her interview on Monday, Amadi cited her extensive experience in high-pressure roles within the Judiciary, emphasizing that it had fortified her leadership abilities. She noted that resilience and transparency are crucial for the role.

“The high pressure is something I thought about, and I am a very courageous person. If I can demonstrate that what has been done is right, it should not matter where the pressure comes from,” she stated.

Amadi acknowledged the intense scrutiny surrounding the IEBC, especially due to the unresolved deaths of key electoral officials in the past.

However, she expressed readiness to face the challenges head-on, driven by patriotism and commitment to upholding the law.

During her tenure at the Judiciary, she worked with three Chief Justices, significantly reducing audit queries and enhancing financial transparency.

“When I joined in 2014, there were over 50 audit queries. By the time I left, we had reduced them to five, all of which were explainable,” she said.

If appointed, Amadi promised to prioritize transparency and teamwork, ensuring the IEBC remains accountable to the nation.
