Annoyance As Travellers Endure A Frigid Night

Traffic on the Narobi-Nakuru Highway was chaotic for the second day in a row on Saturday.

Traffic on the Narobi-Nakuru Highway was chaotic for the second day in a row on Saturday.

Many drivers and passengers reported that they were trapped on the roadways, even though more police officers were stationed along the route to control traffic.

At nine in the morning, a bus accident in the Kimende region exacerbated the pandemonium, according to police spokesperson Resila Onyango.

“There was a bus accident at Kimende that slowed the traffic, but it has been removed, and traffic is now flowing though slowly,” she said.

Some claimed they left Nairobi around four in the morning but were enmeshed in the commotion when they arrived at Limuru.

Beginning Friday morning, December 20, the turmoil continued all day until around ten o’clock at night, when authorities declared that the situation had improved.

The pandemonium returned on Saturday morning when more drivers got on the road.

Rainfall during the night helped to exacerbate the problem. On the Mai Mahiu route, the same thing happened, and more police were sent out to facilitate traffic.

Caleb Amisi, a Saboti MP who is among those impacted, claimed to have been trapped in the turmoil for over 12 hours on Friday.

“I left Nairobi at 5 am driving myself and hoping to reach Kitale early for an 1 pm event at Kitale National Polytechnic. After encountering heavy traffic first at the Limuru bridge, then towards Kikopey, Nakuru town, and Eldoret town. This is the time I am arriving home,” he wrote.

Drivers reported that although there were more police officers on the road on Saturday, the chaos persisted.
