No casualties were reported in the noon incident. The driver on board was rescued by the Kenya Ferry Service (KFS) emergency units.

Locals who were present at the scene said the bus lost control while approaching to board the ferry.

The incident brought back ill memory of the death of a woman and a baby whose car slid off the ferry and plunged into the ocean in 2019.

Late 2020 also saw the death of a woman whose car drove into the indian ocean. A baby, who was in the vehicle was saved by authorities who rescued the vehicle.

Disasters at the busy Likoni ferry channel are set to reduce as the government finalizes plans for the construction of the Mombasa Gate Bridge set to be completed in 2024.

The new bridge will run from Lumumba Road and span the Likoni Channel at Mwenza Creek and connect to the A14 at Mtongwe.
