Another Man Allegedly Masquerading As Lawyer Charged

Another fake lawyer Ralph Edward Nguma Nzwii, has been charged in Milimani law court with impersonating a High Court advocate.

Nzwii, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, was charged with three counts of forgery, presenting forged documents, and masquerading as an advocate.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions informed the court that a DCI detective investigation revealed that the fake lawyer Nzwii has represented several litigants in various matters and courts across the country since 2018.

According to a charge sheet filed in court, Nzwii is accused of representing a Chinese national Liu Dong Sheng in Miscellaneous Application No. 362 of 2018 China New Era Vs Ocean View Residency Limited and Whintto Architects (K) Limited before the Deputy Registrar of the High Court on October 24, 2018, at the Mombasa High Court of Kenya, Commercial and Admiralty Division, despite not being a person qualified as an Advocate.

He is also accused of forging a release agreement purporting to be a genuine release agreement made and signed by Arwa and Change Advocates releasing themselves from representing the Estate of Yongi Family as special administrators on February 24, 2022, at an unknown location within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to defraud.

Furthermore, the fake lawyer was charged with knowingly and fraudulently uttering a forged release agreement purporting to be a genuine release agreement made and signed by Arwa and Change Advocates on April 28, 2022, at Milimani High Court Commercial Division in Nairobi County within the Republic of Kenya.

After denying the charges, Nzwii has maintained his innocence and urged the magistrate to release him on lenient bail terms.

However, the prosecution and LSK have objected to Nzwii’s release on bail, claiming that the case is of public interest. According to the prosecution, he is a flight risk and could flee if released.

The magistrate remanded Nzwii to the Industrial Area Remand Prison pending a pre-bail report.

Police arrested Nzwii just days after Law Society of Kenya president Eric Theuri called for the prosecution of Brian Mwenda, who was also arrested for allegedly impersonating an advocate.

Theuri has stated that LSK will continue to hunt and weed out fake lawyers.
