Shun Selfish Politics — Archbishop Muheria Tasks Aspirants

Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria has challenged aspirants for elective seats in the General Election to make achieving legislative goals other than competitive mud-slinging.

According to Muheria, elected officials should think less about themselves and more about their constituents, putting personal ambitions aside to focus on the nation’s success.

“Our nation is bigger than any one of you! Let’s not put ‘me’ at the centre; let’s put Kenya at the centre of discussion. Let’s think about the real issues affecting Kenyans and not about the issues out of the coming elections,” the clergyman said.

Muheria went on to say that by embracing selfless leadership, officeholders will create systemic changes that will have a ripple effect on the country’s key economic drivers.

Muheria also urged Kenyans to vote wisely, based on informed consideration and with an eye toward the country’s long-term interests.

“This is a conscience’s wake-up call for Kenyans. We have the opportunity to directly address the issue of my vote not being swayed in favor of the candidate I believe would make a good leader. It may not always be the best leader, but you do the best you can with the options you have,” Muheria explained.

Archbishop Muheria, who was elected to oversee Mwai Kibaki’s funeral, was applauded by Kenyans for keeping politicians at bay during the ceremony.

The leader has been instrumental in the clamour for peace, and has led the church in advocating for a tighter grip on corruption.
