In a moving display of faith and compassion, Archbishop Philip Anyolo today presided over Holy Mass at Nairobi West Prison, officially launching the He to He Initiative—a nationwide campaign aimed at improving the dignity of inmates through the donation of triple-decker beds across Kenya’s nine prisons.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the State Department for Correctional Services, the Catholic Men Association (CMA), and Kenyan men of goodwill. It seeks to address the dire sleeping conditions in prisons by offering practical support rooted in Christian values of mercy, brotherhood, and social justice.
In his homily, CMA Chaplain Fr. Bernard Ndichu emphasized the importance of second chances, reminding the faithful that “God is a God of another chance.” He urged Christians to extend compassion and hope to the incarcerated, describing prison as “only a temporary setback.”
Archbishop Anyolo echoed this call to action, stating, “We are here to spread the love of Christ. Be mindful of one another, especially those on the fringes.” His words struck a chord with the congregation, which included inmates, clergy, and top government officials.
Among those in attendance were Dr. Salome Beacco, Principal Secretary in the State Department of Correctional Services, and Patrick Aranduh, Commissioner General of Prisons.
The He to He Initiative represents more than charity—it is a mission of mercy aimed at restoring dignity and humanity to those behind bars. It’s a step toward a more compassionate and inclusive society.
