Are We Ready? East Africa Set to Host Eighth African Nations Championships

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the eighth edition of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) will take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025, across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

This biennial tournament, which exclusively features locally-based players, marks the first time East Africa will host a continental football competition for national teams.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe expressed enthusiasm following a tour of Kenyan national stadiums designated for the event, two of which are currently undergoing renovations.

“I’m impressed with the commitment shown by the three countries, which allows them to enhance their football infrastructure, attract thousands of visitors, and boost tourism,” he stated.

The tournament serves as a precursor to the 2027 African Cup of Nations, which will also be hosted by the three East African nations. Qualifying matches for the 19-team tournament will kick off on October 25, culminating in December.

In the last edition of CHAN in 2023, Senegal triumphed over hosts Algeria in a dramatic penalty shootout, cementing their status as a powerhouse in African football. Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo each hold two CHAN titles since the tournament’s inception in 2009.
