Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, questioning whether he is still in command of the National Police Service or if he has surrendered his authority to politicians and “criminal gangs.”
In a blunt statement issued ahead of a planned meeting in Dagoretti, Gachagua accused the police boss of allowing hooded goons to infiltrate the service and attack innocent Kenyans with total impunity.
The former DP highlighted a series of violent incidents, including a recent raid at the ACK Witima Church in Othaya where he claimed officers and goons used police vehicles, live ammunition, and tear gas to attack women and children.
Gachagua further alleged that just last Saturday, a special squad protected criminals robbing motorists along the Southern Bypass before brutally attacking his convoy in Kikuyu.
He warned that despite these officers being positively identified, no disciplinary action has been taken, creating a culture of lawlessness within the force.
Gachagua went as far as naming specific officers he claimed were currently conducting a “reconnaissance mission” in Dagoretti to disrupt his afternoon meeting.
These officers include: Patrick Githinji, CPl Nickson Sulunye, Nicholas Maina and Simon Mwangi.
Citing their service numbers, phone numbers, and a specific vehicle registration, he challenged Kanja to explain why a “special squad” was being used to cause mayhem instead of maintaining law and order. Capping his warning with a reminder of legal accountability, Gachagua told the IG that “criminal culpability remains as per the law,” signaling that those involved in the alleged state-sponsored violence will eventually be held personally responsible.
