Two armed men attempted a carjacking in Nairobi’s Kilimani neighborhood but were shot and killed by police responding to the victims’ distress call.
The robbers restrained a taxi driver and his client on Kilimani’s Chania Avenue with a Russian-made firearm and two other handguns before robbing them of their phones and taking over their Toyota Vitz.
As the suspects fled after what they thought was a successful mission, police officers stopped them and demanded that they surrender.
The accused disobeyed the legitimate command and opened fire indiscriminately as they fled.
The police fired quick shots in tactical response, fatally injuring the two.
Four cellphones were discovered, including the two stolen from the victims, as well as three pistols with six unfired ammunition.
The victims were transported to safety after the 10 p.m. tragedy, while the gangsters’ remains were taken to a municipal morgue for identification.
