The British Army says it is looking into the hacking of its Twitter and YouTube accounts.
Videos on bitcoin featuring billionaire businessman Elon Musk have aired on the YouTube channel.
Several posts on NFTs, a sort of electronic artwork for investment, appeared to be retweeted on Twitter.
An Army spokesperson added: “Whilst we have now resolved the issue an investigation is ongoing and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
It is unclear who is responsible for the hacking instances, which also resulted in the accounts being renamed.
At one point, the Twitter handle was changed to Bapesclan, with a profile image of an ape-like cartoon creature wearing clown make-up.
The account had been returned to normal by Sunday evening.
The Army later tweeted: “Apologies for the temporary interruption to our feed. We will conduct a full investigation and learn from this incident. Thanks for following us and normal service will now resume.”
