Arrest Warrant Issued for Juja MP Koimburi Over Alleged Fake Abduction Plot

A Nairobi court has issued an arrest warrant against Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi for failing to appear in court to answer charges related to an alleged staged abduction.

Koimburi, alongside Kanyenya-ini Ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu and five others, was charged in absentia on Tuesday at the Milimani Law Courts with conspiring to defeat the course of justice, contrary to Section 117(c) of the Penal Code.

According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly staged Koimburi’s abduction on May 25, 2025, in Mugutha area, Juja sub-county, in a bid to frustrate his arrest and arraignment over four pending land fraud charges. Koimburi was reportedly “abducted” outside a church service and later found in a Ruiru plantation before being admitted to Plainsview Hospital and later transferred to a Nairobi facility.

During the purported incident, several opposition politicians allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua condemned the alleged abduction, claiming Koimburi had been tortured and dumped.

However, the State now says the entire event was a hoax. Koimburi faces an additional charge of publishing false information after he released a YouTube statement from his hospital bed, claiming he had been kidnapped and tortured.

One of his co-accused, Peter Kiratu Muhia, is also facing a separate charge of giving false information to police, after allegedly filing a fake abduction report at Mugutha Police Station, which triggered official investigations.

Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi issued arrest warrants for Koimburi and two other suspects who failed to appear. Four of the accused, who were present in court, pleaded not guilty.
