Villa doubled their advantage in the 64th minute. Leon Bailey’s cross went unchecked, allowing Rogers to pounce on the loose ball and slot it home from close range, leaving Spurs on the back foot.
Tottenham fought back late in the match, with new signing Mathys Tel managing to pull one back in the 91st minute, flicking home a cross from Dejan Kulusevski. However, Villa’s resilient defense held firm, ensuring the Premier League side’s progression to the next round.
