Atheists in Kenya have slammed the National Prayers Breakfast, calling it a waste of taxpayer funds and an insult to “struggling Kenyans.”
In a statement issued through their umbrella organisation, Atheists in Kenya Society, they chastised the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the “government should get its priorities right.”
“The Kenya Kwanza government came to power with a promise to create jobs and tackle the high cost of living. Almost a year since the William Ruto administration came to power, millions of Kenyans remain unemployed or underemployed. The cost of basic commodities is still unaffordable for many Kenyans,” the society’s president, Harrison Mumia said.
Mumia also advocated for the abolition of the National Prayer Breakfast.
President Ruto led hundreds of leaders and guests in this year’s Safari Park Hotel prayers, which were themed around reconciliation.
