A seven-year-old girl has died after being hit by a lorry in the Lukenya area near Simba Cement Company in Athi River, Machakos County, on Wednesday evening.
Amani was reportedly killed instantly by the lorry. She was a PP2 student in a local Athi River sub-county school.
According to the police, the lorry registered as KCY 204D was fleeing from a weighbridge patrol unit when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Dominic Makau, 31, the deceased’s father, said he learned of his daughter’s death from some witnesses who knew his family members.
“I had sent my family somewhere, and the girl was with her mother, Virginia Kamanthe, when the incident happened,” Makau said over the phone to the Star on Friday.
“On their way back after crossing the busy highway and about to board a boda boda to take them home, my wife mysteriously escaped while our daughter was killed by the lorry,” he added.
The wreckage was towed to the police station in Athi River for inspection.
The body of the child was taken to the mortuary at Shalom Community Hospital, where an autopsy was scheduled for Saturday, April 16.
Makau appealed to well-wishers to assist them in raising funds for their daughter’s burial. He stated that the daughter would be laid to rest at his Kinanie home.
