Strange Chemical Killing Fish In Athi River

A manufacturer based in Industrial Area and Athi River is suspected of having released lead into the River, occasioning the killing of thousands of fish.

According to residents of Mwala, Katangi, and Thwake, industrial effluent is released into the River when it rains, to conceal the poison.

“At the commencement of Every rainy season, waters of this river turn green, blue, agile and greasy. A foul smell emanates from them. Then the fish begin to die in their thousands”, Mutinda said.

He revealed that crooked fishermen from Nairobi pick the dead fish, exposing consumers to ailments ranging from food poisoning to cancer.

He urged the Government to act decisively and deal with the crooks polluting Athi River.
