Attention Turns to Ithookwe Stadium as Kenya Set To Host Mashujaa Day in Kitui

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports Salim Mvurya has called on Kenyans to join in the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County.

Speaking during the official handover of the facility from contractors, CS Mvurya encouraged the public to attend and participate in what he described as a landmark national event.

The stadium, built at a cost of KSh 700 million, is designed to international standards and can accommodate 10,000 spectators.

Phase one of the project, which cost KSh 299 million, is complete, while remaining works, including a and auxiliary facilities, will be finished after the Mashujaa Day festivities.

Planned upgrades include a tartan track, compliant changing rooms, and modern amenities to enhance the experience for athletes and spectators alike.

CS Mvurya’s announcement comes as other major projects, including the Kitui Airstrip and Kitui State Lodge, are expected to be launched during President William Ruto’s upcoming tour of the county.

Governor Malombe joined the appeal, urging residents and visitors to support the county in hosting the national celebrations.

Kenya observes Mashujaa Day on 20th October to honour the country’s heroes who fought for freedom, unity, and progress.

This year’s celebrations will carry an added solemnity following the recent death of Raila Odinga.

Leaders in the late statesman’s home county have called on Kenyans to honour his legacy alongside the nation’s Mashujaa, blending remembrance with celebration in a gesture of national unity.
